I wrote a product review for Future Shop’s online store. They didn’t seem to care for it so it wasn’t posted on their site:
This product is unbelievable… not in a good way. The packaging says “Clear Protective Overlays” but you get one overlay. One thin sticky piece of plastic film for $13. Yes you get a wet-nap to clean the screen, but $13 for one screen protector when the package says you get more than one?
And you know what else? The film doesn’t cover the entire front glass surface, but rather just the area in which the image is displayed. Even further, it’s slightly too small to cover the entire image area.
Future shop generally gives good value, but how this one got through, I don’t know.
I received this as a gift from my brother-in-law. He was very kind to think of me, so the way it turned out upsets me even more. What bothers me the most is I didn’t have a receipt enabling me to get the money back. I don’t particularly want it, but I want the store and the manufacturer to have it even less.
I noted the product listing on the Future Shop site now says “Overlay” rather than “Overlays.” Also, I was unable to locate the product on Belkin’s site. Their pride in the product is showing with the false product labeling and its overwhelming crappiness. Way to go Belkin!

Oh, Rick. I can top that. I bought a GPS online on Boxing Day from Future Shop. It was a TomTomOne, and it was fairly decent except for one tiny problem…every time you shut it off, you would have to restart it by holding a paper clip inside of it to reset the system. Turns out (once I did my internet research) that this was an ongoing problem for months, yet neither Future Shop or TomTom bothered to pull the product. The futureshop.ca website listed the product I bought as playing MP3s, and having a digital photo viewer (with an expandable SD Memory Card slot). NONE of this was true. The guys at the South Keys Future Shop were great about my return, and even refunded my shipping charges. I was basically told that the people in BC that do the online product descriptions are not very accurate/thorough, and they didn’t seem too surprised. Not much explanation though as to why they were selling a defective batch of GPS systems over the Christmas holidays though…

You’re right Ryan, you definitely top my story. A reset to turn it on? That’s ridiculous. I wonder how many people kept it anyway. That’s one good thing about their return policy…they’re extremely accomodating about it.
And about the moderation obstacle course…your inspection is satisfactory. Seriously though, I’ve read of some blogger who get buried in comment spam. Apparently the spammers have gotten fancy and have software that can automatically spam blog comments. Lovely, eh? Requiring moderation doesn’t stop the spamming, but it stops it from appearing to you all. I haven’t had any spam yet and I hope it stays away!
