In a struggle to be happy and free

Drystone Wall

Cold snap!

During my morning commute, the temperature was −26° and it felt like −39° with the wind chill! That’s −15°F and −38°F. Chilly!

Many things sound different in the cold. My car sounded like an old tractor… and the mechanic left his tool box in the engine compartment. A car in the lot was left idling and the belts in the engine made the vehicle sound like it was powered by captured banshees. Another car drove past me as I walked to the parking garage and I noticed that while snow really crunches as the temperature drops, it was cold enough that it almost squealed under the car’s tires.

Goodness, my commute was at 7 a.m. but the current temperature, at 12:30 p.m., is −25° with the 11 km/h winds making it feel like −34°. And it’s going to get worse, too. Tonight’s low is forecast at −29°! I have no plans this evening so after I get some chores done, I’ll see what I can do about getting out for a walk around the block!

Aiee! A walk around the block?? Are you going to wear your heated snowsuit? Crazy man.

  2. Heated snowsuit…that sounds nice! I didn’t make it out last night though. But maybe tonight. The forecast calls for ‑31º!

  3. I’m sorry, I can’t resist. The temps here for the last several days have been in the mid-20’s. Sunny, with a cool breeze. Perfect, really.
