Class versus trash

This morning, the US Olympic men’s hockey team beat the Canadians in overtime for the gold medal. This is what Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney posted on Bluesky:

Could not be more proud of you, Team Canada. You're coming home with 21 hard-fought Olympic medals. Though what Canadians will remember most is how you wore the Maple Leaf: with pride, with grit, and with determination.

Trump’s Whitehouse posted about their win with a very different flavour:

A bald eagle brings down a Canada goose.

Carney is a true statesman with grace, finesse, and determination. While Trump does control the most powerful nation on earth, he’s no statesman. He’s a small man-child full of pettiness and bile. There’s no class, decorum, or taste. He has no idea what humility and grace is, much less how to win with humility and lose with grace.

It’s such a shame. The US of the last year bears little resemblance to the US of the past. Unfortunately, it will take years for the country to climb out of the hole that Trump continues to dig for it, if indeed it ever can. The country is a bitter and vile shadow of what it once was after just a year of Trump leadership. I shudder to think of what another three years will bring.
