I had my car in the shop this weekend. There was a god-awful rattle coming from the underside at around 2000 RPM. I was almost certain it was the heat shield, or perhaps part of the exhaust system. Still, in case it was something serious, it was time. Actually, it was long past time as the last time I had the car in was some years ago.
At the time, they told me the brakes were okay, but I ought to have them checked the following summer. Yea, that was two years ago. So it was brake pads and rotors all the way around. Ouch. I don’t even want to tell you what it cost. I didn’t let them change the cracked outer CV boots or the right rear ABS sensor (the cause of my ABS not functioning) this time because the surplus I’d built up is pretty much gone. Still, I’m not upset. If I could afford to get things done as they went bad, it would’ve been much less of a shock. Now that I have a decent job, I’ll be able to keep on top of things better.
And it was the heat shield.
