Oh technology, ain’t it something? Some joker who got his hands on a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before it was released. Could he just read the book and enjoy it? Oh no. He used his digital SLR to take photos of every page, and made them available through BitTorrent so anyone could download them. Technology giveth!
But wait a second … because technology also taketh away.
Many digital cameras include their serial number in the hidden EXIF data. This information is viewable with easily obtained software. According to the EFF, if the joker sent in the camera’s warranty card, had it in for service, or even uploaded any images to photo sharing sites, the files will easily be linked to the camera’s owner.
Heh.
