In an article called “Olympic organizers reveal lip-synched child performance” the CBC reports on how the Olympic opening ceremony included a Milli-Vanilliesque performance by Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi. Nine-year-old Miaoke lip-synced to the vocals seven-year-old Peiyi recorded previously.
Why, you ask? Because although Peiyi has a beautiful voice, they deemed her not pretty enough to actually been seen. Lovely. Chen Qigang, the ceremony’s chief music director, explains:
The reason for this is that we must put our country’s interest first. We had to make that choice. It was fair both for Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi … We combined the perfect voice and the perfect performance.
The country’s interests, indeed. It seems like the handiwork of Captain Rationalization.
Pitiful.

Why are people so surprised. It’s China, where the truth is always fabricated.
