It was my pleasure and privilege to attend Lori’s son’s soccer game last weekend and shoot some photos.
The weather forecast was downright alarming. Rain with a chance of thundershowers. We were also under a severe weather warning so you can imagine why my expectations weren’t high. Imagine my surprise to arrive and see sun!
My plan was to shoot primarily with the EF 400mm 1:5.6L which does indeed bring the action in, but its slow maximum aperture requires a nice bright day to achieve the short shutter speeds needed for sports. The sun and a 400 ISO made this a snap.
My biggest problem was the EF 400mm 1:5.6L was sometime too long! Still, I got a lot of good photos. I did use the EF 70 – 200mm 1:4L IS for a brief period, including the photo you see here, but the 400mm was my workhorse.
The game was fun to watch and Lori’s son is as adorable as a child can possibly be. Not only was I pleased to have the opportunity to see him play, but his last games of the season are on Saturday and I’m going again.
