Another typo

The CBC posted an article called “Atom-smasher breaks proton acceleration mark” reporting that the LHC has exceeded the former largest proton acceleration energy level. Cool. My amusement started when I read the comments. There are the usual numb-skulls who think scientific research is a waste of money, of course. But one more enlightened individual made an unfortunate typo:

We may finally find the evidence to support the big band theory, something I have always thought was sound

Of course he meant ‘big bang theory’ but I’m still amused.

Staff perk: Fail

A few weeks ago I received a number of DVDs from Zip.ca. They rent DVDs by mail, much like Netflix in the United States. I’ve never received anything in the envelope with the DVD, so I was surprised to see this:

Whoops! Dwayne’s gonna be pissed.

Typo or not?

I was watching CBC News: Ottawa this evening. I try to avoid any local CTV programming these days and the CBC comes in on a nice clean digital signal.

The host, Lucy van Oldenbarneveld, was reporting on the five militant attacks that occurred today in three Pakistani cities. I looked at the graphic insert and saw something I wasn’t expecting. Check it out for yourself:

Umm, Pakisatan? I thought it was certainly a typo. But I’m not eager to make a fool out of myself, so I looked it up. I thought it might be a province in the area or something like that.

I still don’t know. Google shows more than 50,000 hits for Pakisatan, though it does ask if you mean Pakistan. If you search for Pakisatan in Wikipedia, it takes you directly to Pakistan. I thought it could be an alternate spelling, perhaps in a different language. My searching was inconclusive. What bothers me the most is that where Pakisatan is used, it seems deliberate. Still, for the 50,000 hits in Google, Pakistan returns 170 million hits. If you know something, please do share!

I’d much prefer it be a typo so I can be amused without hesitation.

Ooops!

It was one of those days today.

I visited my doctor on Monday and she wrote me a prescription. I have no memory of leaving with the scrip so I figured that I left it in the examining room. Not a large leap of logic, right?

Except that I found it on my desk this afternoon…after I called the doctor’s office and arranged to pick up a replacement, tomorrow.

We all have these days. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. And I really should call the doctor’s office to let them know.

If my head were not attached…

I couldn’t find my iPod this morning. I’m picking up coffee for a few people tomorrow and wanted to note what they wanted. I checked in my pants, I checked the Mac, I checked where I keep my keys and wallet, I checked all around the place. No iPod.

The last place a remember seeing it was the cup-holder in the car after my shopping trip last night. Surely it wasn’t still there the next morning! Surely I’m more careful than that. Out of options, I went down to the garage, and before I even got to my car, I was pleased to see that there were no smashed windows. Reaching for the door handle, I could see my iPod, sitting in the cup-holder.

Smarten-up, Rick!
